Cathare Castles
The nearest one to us is Aguilar, near Tuchan.  Others are Padern, Montsegur, Peyreperteuse and Queribus.  You need to have a good head for heights to visit these places as they are perched on mountain tops!  One advantage of this, is that the views are spectacular.  Don’t forget your camera!

Abbeys
Lagrasse and Fontfroide, both about 45 minutes away are well worth visiting.  Only part of Lagrasse abbey is open to the public as it has been opened again as a religious centre.  Fontfroide has recently had the stained glass windows restored.  It is also possible to buy wine and other local produce there.
